the metal yard

since i'm incapable of driving, well i wouldn't say incapable, but rather "driving impaired"...
i had to hitch a ride back to the valley with taylor yesterday.
on the way to, we had to go downtown to the metal yard to pick up supplies for a project he's working on for a client (a concrete tabletop to go along with the concrete sofa he built: check it out here)
so he put on the ol' levis, strapped on his work boots and stuffed his leather gloves in his back pocket, and away we went.
who knew this grungy metal yard would be a picture taking wonderland!
i was like a little kid in the candy store, wandering off and taylor telling me to be careful i don't run into anything or get hurt

i followed taylor around like i was his paparazzo while he measured things, lifted things, inspected them and talked with the workers. i had no idea what they were talking about or what he was looking for, but it didn't matter because i was in my own world. i wondered if people thought he was a famous builder because i had two cameras around my neck and i was shooting like there was no tomorrow. i like to think they did and i imagined he was.
this young gentleman showed up with a gorgeous display of cut oranges. he passed them around and i was lucky enough to get one. i sat on this steel chair and enjoyed this juicy treat. later he came up to me and was flirting in spanish. i told him i had "un novio" and pointed out to taylor. he seemed to care less.
so taylor found his pieces and picked up some pre-ordered stuff at will-call and we were done.

have fun with your dear fathers and enjoy the beautiful day.
i'm going to a father's day bbq with taylor's family and i'm so excited for it.
i made chocolate covered, frozen bananas that i can't wait to share with them everyone!

happy sunday!

cinespia of fun!

its monday again, which means another great weekend has passed by.
what  wonderful summer this is starting out to be.
saturday night was spent with dear friends at the 3rd cinespia of the season
my favorite 1972, black-comedy, "harold and maude" was playing
(a throwback to senior year of high school for davana and me).
yet again, we drank, we ate (a lot), we laughed, and reminisced about times in high school - specifically about homeroom and our 70's obsessed teacher who made us listen to the beatles and watch old, classic 70's films, including harold and maude.
it was april's first cinespia (ever!) and i think we already have her hooked.
she's already planning her upcoming saturday evenings to come back.
a fabulous night, complimenting a fabulous weekend
happy monday, only 15 days until the official start of summer!

a day in tokyo

well, taylor and i were supposed to spend the weekend in cambria, but since the weatherman forcasted lots of rain, we opted to go next weekend

so, on a whim we decided to go to little tokyo for the day!

we spent a lot of our time at anzen hardware, where taylor bought a handful of japanese hand tools which he plans to use for this next wood project.
we met some of fun, ecentric friends including an old japanese fighting top spinner (kenkagoma koma) and his young apprentice...

and this little old japanese lady with a fabulous faux fur hat!
what fun we had wondering around. there is nothing better than a beautiful june day, taylor, and my camera

saturday wonders.

saturday taylor and i had a spontaneous day.
it was the first saturday in a long time i got to spend with him, since he has spent that last few working on the dining table.

we woke up early and bought paint from benjamin moore to paint the apartment. then we drove out to gardena on a whim for the h.d. buttercup "almost 100% off" warehouse sale, which turned out to be a bust.

by the time we got back to santa monica we were starving, and felt father's office would be the only cure.

so we ate... like really ate... like pigs

all of montana ave.'s shops were having a street sale. we barely made it across the street from father's office and taylor crashed on a couch.
our bellies were so full, but i couldn't stop laughing.
people were walking buy saying "gee, that couch looks really comfortable..."

after we drove back home to meet taylor's parents at our apartment
on the way back, we randomly found frank gehry's house. we got out and looked around...
i wondered off to a garage sale across the street and found this amazing chair

taylor and i decided we had to have it.... and so did everyone else.
taylor ran up the street to the atm to get cash while i stayed behind. there was a lot of tension over this chair, but we were the lucky winners.
$50!!! Go us!

its from 1961 and has travelled the world - it was a government chair, apparently.

i'm happy its ours. i will post more pictures soon to show how it looks in our new apartment.

we had many other adventures this weekend that will be up soon too, namely our painting disaster...

stay tuned, and happy monday!
